New kind of spam appearing

  • Unknown's avatar

I am getting a new type of spam appearing. These are in the form of strange dictionary definitions.

    Here is one example:
    a switchblade knife popular in Jamaica (1) {a href=”http://sandy007smarty.seo.iitm.ac.in/”} Thamesportal{/a} only, solely, unaccompanied. (5) weak, pallid (6)

These are not being blocked by askimet. If I mark them as spam, do they get added to the askimet database automatically?

Yes this is similar to the stuff that I have been getting that I was just reporting to drmike in the “conspiracy theory” thread. Mark it spam and akismet will learn.

    drmike
They were using the Ocadia theme the bottom line said sponsored by weblogs.us However I moderate all comments and check out every link before it goes onto my blog so I caught them,

In part their site said this:

“Looks like my strategy backfired. It seems to me that I spammed two much. Used the same words too many times. I wont do it again. I also deleted a couple of super-spam posts of mine. But I have already got negative points from google. Now it may require days or even months to counteract that. Any help ????

I have to find ways to get off-page improvement. Like getting links. Can anyone donate links to me?”

This site contains all the basic instructions they are using for how to become a spammer by using google key words, etc.

I have bookmarked the site and properly marked the spam that came from it on my blog. I have the link to this site and it has the links to the others what shall I do with it?

    Thanks Timethief.
One thing I don’t get is when tag surfing I see some of these strange definitions linking to other wordpress blogs. Don’t these people realise they will have their account closed?

Please mark them as spam. As you ask, this is how Akismet learns about new spam sources and topics.

    Thanks,

    @becs
That’s what we are attempting to do now.

HEADS UP EVERYONE! Watch your comments very, very closely.

  • Unknown's avatar

Akismet knows and has been stopping them for the last hour or so.

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t really want to have to moderate all comments before they post up.
Perhaps WordPress could look into having number authentication when someone posts.. like having to enter numbers from an image like you see on some places?
It won’t with help those manually spamming, but will do the automated ones.

    Look up a post. :)

Please remember that Akismet has to learn something is a spam before it can stop it. That one of the reasons why we push reporting around here. That way Akismet does learn what is spam.

    What drmike says :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok thanks all. I shall keep reporting :-/

  • Unknown's avatar

Once Akismet learns, and Podz has it has, it will start going direct to the Akismet queue.

I get spam that they talk about the topic which the post is about like they’re having a conversation with me. But then the same stinking message appears a dozen more times on other posts. A new one is Jon. That’s it. I hope I got the name right. Another one is just {MSG . And this one:

Interesting post. I came across this blog by accident, but it was a good accident. I have now bookmarked your blog for future use. Best wishes.

*shrug* I get email spam with content of “Just testing :)”

My favorite is when I see links in spam email that says ‘COPY YOUR LINK HERE!’

    *sigh*

  • Unknown's avatar

    I get tons like hjghfjtureygjklfhbnfklghfkhguithgrjh

    * confused *

  • Unknown's avatar

Check to see if the URL is to a spam website.

They have to put something into the content. :)

They’re getting through again today; must have changed something to get past Akismet. Marking as Spam.

Another wave just now and one earlier this afternoon.

  • Unknown's avatar

Same thing here I just keep on marking as spam.

These spam bots are systematically attacking my most recent posts with comments open on them that pertain to global warming.

They are all from the same IP

I hate to think what’s happening on blogs that do not have moderated comments.

Akismet is catching it all now; that was fast!
