New kind of spam on blog

    spam coming through on my blog what do I do
    These spams come a least one a day, very sleek. They write something and then bombard with their info. I spam mark them, but left today’s on so you can see. These people have figured a way to get through your anti spam in place. I am very happy with wordpress and want you to know I feel violated when these new sleek spams come through. I want to make you aware and get your help to stop these.

    Thanks for the report. It looks like you may have marked them as spam or deleted them as I don’t see any spam in your Comments here:

    The only spam comment I see is the following:

    https://sheilaclapkin345.wordpress.com/wp-admin/comment.php?action=editcomment&c=3642#akismet-status

    It looks like Akismet, our spam-blocker did clear this comment. However, if you mark it as spam, the spam blocker should catch similar comments moving forward.

    If you’re noticing the spam comments contain a common string of text or a common email/URL, you can add them to the blacklist as explained here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

    Can you give that a try?

    Hey Sheila,

    It looks like a few comments are getting by Akismet like this one:

    https://sheilaclapkin345.wordpress.com/wp-admin/comment.php?action=editcomment&c=3752#akismet-status

    Under “History”, you can see “Akismet Cleared This Comment” even though it is undoubtedly spam. That comes from the same IP address as the comment you pasted below. Can you try the following?

    1. When comments come through like this, please mark them as spam rather than just deleting them.
    2. When you notice a common IP address like the one in the comment above, can you add it to the blacklist as described here?

    Let’s give those two things a try and see if it improves the comments sneaking through!

    You can find the comment blacklist under Settings -> Discussion. Can you give that a try? You can read more about the blacklist here:
