new member needs navigation in css-help!

hi all,
I’m new in wp and willing you all to help me out in this.
I am not familiar with wp, I am using blogger in the past year, and I admit it that wp has a better features and easier to manage. I purchased the 15 units “manage my css” for 1 year, and want to customize my layout myself. I downloaded from free template web, they offered us so many great design (thanks), but I found a problem in submitting them to my css box. My old basic wp layout keep posting again and again.
Helpful hands will be appreciated. If you don’t mind, could you explain step by step, what to do from the start (After I download to zip file). I’m pretty raw, but as WP admin says, css is not hard, I am sure I can get it.
Thanks alot, wish anybody will answer this. -
(1) Obviously anyone already working in wordpress sysadmin is already a geek *lol*, so when they say css customization is not hard they are obviously coming from a knowledge base that neither you nor I have. For example, our support Maven Mark has a css knowledge base that is shall we say “extensive” but he does not provide css customization support.
Also, I think we can safely that assume anyone working in wp sysadmin has a vested interest in selling their company’s excellent features to bloggers. If they didn’t show some enthusiasm about doing so then I think they would probably be looking for a job elsewhere, don’t you? *lol*
(2) I do not believe that the template you downloaded from the web may be used on wordpress.com. It’s my understanding that wordpress.com blogs and wordpress.org blogs are coded differently to run on different software. So if you try to stick a theme that is not coded for wordpress.com MU in there it will not “happen” but will revert to the themes we already have.
Basically you can use CSS to improve on any existing theme; you can define your own classes for use in posts; you can select the Sandbox theme and build on one of the Minimalist layouts or opt for no stylesheet and do it all yourself.
The CSS Editor does not let you edit any particular theme stylesheet; rather, it keeps the theme intact and lets you edit a brand new stylesheet. Because your custom CSS is loaded after the theme’s CSS, your style rules can override or add to the existing rules.
(3) Although there is a forum and other bloggers may volunteer to help you if needs be, there is no wordpress staff support for css customization. These two threads may be helpful.
(4) IMO it’s not very realistic to expect that you will be able to get step-by-step service on the forum during the holiday season so when I saw the exclamation point in your post title I lol.
The css customization forum has pink sticky threads with resources listed in them that you can use to educate yourself in the duration. After the holidays sunburntkamel, wank and maybe others may be available to help you.

most free templates you find won’t work out-of-the box, because they use their own structure.
what you can do, is upload their images, and edit the CSS selectors to match what we have on wordpress.com, in the sandbox theme.
if you’re looking for copy-and-paste solutions, here are a few:
