New member of WordPress
-
I have just started my adventure with wordpress. Everything went well during the membership process and I was left with a nice first blog post site. I tried to look for the version number, as I thought I would get the latest 4.7.2 version. I looked in all of the appropriate places (as instructed) to find the version number but it was not there. So I checked out my WordPress.com folder in the Program Files (x86), where I found a file called ‘version’. When I opened this, it said the version was ‘v1.3.5’. Why didn’t I get the latest version> and How do I upgrade (easily) to ver 4.7.2. Thank you! Tory
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi toryata,
The version that you’re seeing as v1.3.5 would be the version of the desktop application that you’re using. As far as WordPress.com sites I believe these are auto-updated whenever there’s a stable version available.

Thank you Demasiri, 1) How do I upgrade my desktop version to the latest edition? and 2) How do I find out the version on wordpress that was given as my startup site? It does not appear on the bottom of the dashboard page, and it is not in the source code when I open the website, and I cannot check it using the updates button because the updates button does not appear in the dashboard. This is very frustrating for a new beginner. I hope you can help. Thanks, Tory

You don’t need to worry about this. This is just the version of the software and doesn’t affect your blog version.2) How do I find out the version on wordpress that was given as my startup site?
As far as I know there’s no way to find out exactly, but the version on WordPress.com is the same for everyone. There’s no need to manage versions on the .com sites – so you can just blog without needing to worry about compatibility. -
