New multiple problems with galleries

А few days ago galleries significantly changed their behavior.
1. “slideshow” gallery type stop working. Message “This slideshow requires JavaScript” appears.
2. “columns” gallery type stop resizing its content on container size. It just cut the content instead.

My 5 years old sites with hundreds pages are heavily resides on past behavior.

I have noticed the same problems. I have many galleries in my posts and last night noticed that my latest post was only showing the first image. When I looked at the Gallery Settings several options have disappeared including the option to tile or use squares or circles. All my older posts with galleries now look terrible.
uses two sets of galleries each with six square photos. As you can see the layout is totally wrong.

Hi there, Thanks for posting about this.
I’ve flagged this thread for Staff attention as I am also experiencing this on one of my sites. A draft post I have been working on with multiple tiled galleries is appearing with right side gallery thumbnail images cut off. Looks fine in the Editor, but not in Preview.
FWIW Classic Editor in use on my site.

Apparently the tech team are working in this ‘glitch’. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

I am panicked about this glitch! I really hope they will fix it! I am an artist and I am 100% dependent on the gallery feature.

Just checked my posts and all appears to be back to normal. Except when I go to create a new gallery there is still no option for me to choose the layout of the gallery. I use the classic editor from the WP Admin menu.

Yes, JustJennifer, the list is still missing despite the general issue apparently being fixed. I am amazed at how it just disappeared like that and how my site appeared so messed up this mroning when I had just worked on it yesterday, creating a new gallery to add to a widget which already contained another gallery.
The inactive widget part of the ‘widgets’ section also contained a gallery but that made no sense as I had never put anything into the inactive widget section.
I removed the galleries altogether for now from the widget in question as the shape that is left available – vertical rectangular shape – is not to my liking at all. Like Izit and Miamakila79, I would like to have made the list made available again so I can choose the circular format They seem very popular.
I spent a lot of time on it as I was sizing the pictures and so on. I imagine artists spend even more time on their pictures. There was no problem creating this gallery. Both galleries had circle-shaped images and both were messed up – oversized and just the first one of the trio in each gallery visible – when I woke up this morning and happened to look at my site.
I hope this can be fixed for everyone including putting the layout list back in place as it seems it’s very popular. As it was an overnight occurrence I hope it’s just a glitch and nothing more serious. Whatever it is, I hope it can be fixed and soon.

I feel the exact same way as Corbettamtranslations. I am extremely dependent on the layout options because I am an artist and that’s an important part of creating my portfolio… and is soon to launch my business again after being burned out so the world is waiting for my comeback….. It just have to work or I am forced to leave WordPress.com for another website platform. I have been a WP member for 10 years and I’ve worked sooooooo hard to create my website during the past 2 months (full time job)… so this is catastrophic… Please give us back the layout options!!! Thanks.

Working on a website can take a long time if you’re in any way particular about your design and I’m sure we all are. I know I am. I have never experienced a glitch (or whatever it is) like this before but/so it was really alarming.

The staff member said that a few posts ago and we have since told you /him it is not fully resolved. As it is a problem of two parts. Your response is only backing up the failure of these developers who have not responded to my support emails either.
