New non-profit web site
-
Hello – I’m working on setting up a website for a non-profit organization that will raise funds for our local high school. We already have a domain name, but I have no existing budget. I’m confused about the difference between mapping my domain to my wordpress account versus transferring the domain. What are the costs and benefits associated with each option?

Hi there,
Mapping the domain only associates the domain name with your WordPress.com site, your domain will continue to be maintained at the other registrar, all future renewals will be done at that registrar, and there are no fees from WordPress.com for the mapping process, though, you’ll be required to have an upgraded plan before you can map.

If you transfer the domain, WordPress.com will become the new registrar of your domain, you’ll be able to maintain your domain through your WordPress.com account, and all future renewals will be done through WordPress.

Here’s the list of allowed TLDs that can be transferred to WordPress.com, and their prices:
