New notifications are so slow

  • Unknown's avatar

I have noticed that many times I cannot post a response to a notification via the new interface. It times out repeatedly. This happens both on my computer (multiple browsers) and on my iphone and ipad so I know it’s not on my end. It’s very frustrating. Mostly I use the old notification link on my computer but I hope someone is working on this.

Thank you very much. I can’t imagine I’m the first one but you never know. I thought it would be wise to report it.

    You’re welcome Laura.

    Hi @lauramacky,

Thanks for the report! When this times out, are you receiving an error message or does the comment just not post? Also, you mentioned using your phone and iPad. Have you noticed this happening on reliable internet connects as well as over a phone connection? Trying to reproduce!

On the iPad and iPhone, I type a response to a notification and click post or whatever button it is (I’m on my computer now) and it times out and gives me an error that says “try again or give up”. I keep trying again and nothing ever happens. Then the issue is it looks like the notification is already read and I forget to comment back. On my computer, I think I get some red bar at the top of the notifications that says it failed. Usually I wait to get on my computer to use this link to comment on notifications: https://wordpress.com/notifications. It’s a shame because more and more we are using our devices and comment is not reliable on my device.

If this happens again, send us a screenshot, so we can better understand the issue.

You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and we’ll be able to access it from there.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

    Take a Screenshot

Please include both mobile and desktop versions of the error, if possible.

    Thank you for your patience.

It just happened on my computer, so I took a screenshot and put it in my media library.

    @lauramacky

    Previously, you stated:

On my computer, I think I get some red bar at the top of the notifications that says it failed.

I don’t see that error in the screenshot you provided:

Can you please provide screenshots of the actual error messages?

Thank you for your continuing patience.

How weird. I took the screenshot right away when I saw it. I won’t be able to answer this thread much anymore. I’m going to be busy with something else and won’t be on WP after a few more days. But the error message is a red bar at the top of the notifications that just says “failed” and then something else but I can’t remember. Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

    Hi @lauramacky,

Thanks so much for your continued help here. We do have error messages built-in to the Notifications bar in the case of failed comments. However, I’m not sure what could be causing the failure here. It doesn’t sound like you’re doing anything incorrect here. We’ll keep trying to reproduce and see if we can come up with any steps that might help to alleviate the issue!
