NEW (?) PAGE EDITOR

A few minutes ago I edited a page on this blog without difficulty but now when I try to a new (?) page editor appears and doesn’t respond when I try to use it. Help please.

Is it not possible for you to tell me has the picture editing function been changed tonight? What’s there now is unuseable.

A major update was made to the editor today. You should be able to add images there, but advanced editing such as cropping is not yet available in the new WordPress.com. You may still access functions like those by adding /wp-admin to the end of your blog home page if you’d like. Is cropping what you were trying to do?
Can you tell me more about what isn’t working? Do you see an error or a completely blank page or an almost blank page with a spinner?
I tested just now and it is working for me. I used Firefox 42 in my test. What browser version are you using?

I’m using Firefox 42 and nothing works. Something as simple as when I go to post a picture there’s no longer an option showing what size the picture is before inserting. As I said it’s unusable. Surely I’m not alone?

Okay, that’s different than if the editor is not working at all or timing out (which is what I thought based on your earlier comments).
The way images are sized has changed. To resize an image, insert it first. After it loads completely, click on the image and you should see “-” and “+” buttons appear. Click on the -/+ buttons to change the image size. Can you try that and let me know if it works for you?

That’s just one of many problems all the changes have caused.
Anyway, yes that way of inserting the image works but then when you click on the updated image it no longer enlarges.
Change for the sake of change and combined with all the previous messing with scroll bars sometime back I feel like moving back to Blogger. The Collect Ireland blog is something that I’ve put a lot of effort into and has over 1.5 million hits but this really has scuppered it. At least you saved me the cost of renewing the dot.com due in December.

I’m using Edge, and I have no way to add images as well as the screen being narrow. Many of the previous options in the side bar are also absent. Is this due to Edge? If so, am I going to be forced to use a certain browser with my wordpress site?

@bookwraiths I tested Edge 12 on Windows 10 and the Editor appeared normally for me and I was able to add media. In case you didn’t find the button here’s what the Add Media icon looks like in the new editor:
If you’re still having trouble could you try clearing the browser cache then revisit https://wordpress.com/post and see if things worked as expected?

Thanks for including a link. To add a link for an image that points to the original image, click on the image in the editor then click the link icon on the edit toolbar. A link to the original image will be pre-filled in the URL field. Click the “Add Link” button to add it.

Is there a way to go back to the old UI for posting? The new update did pretty much make it unusable.

@mrnielson712, you can type /wp-admin to the end of your home page URL and then use the links in the menu on the left.
Before you go back, is there anything I can do to help you work better in the new editor or can you tell me any detail about what specific things you are missing the most? If I know the specifics, I can help or at least maybe add something to the suggestion list for you.

I don’t mean the WP Admin editor, I mean the editor that was there right before the new one was put into place.

@mrnielson712, I see. That editor has been replaced completely. There are only two editors: the one in WP Admin and the new WordPress.com editor.

Is it possible you’re running into a bug or that you are using an out of date browser version? Can you tell me anything more specific about what you are having trouble with or if you see any error messages?

Word count is gone, everything feels squished to the point of on screen claustrophobia, the whole page scrolls instead of the sidebar scrolling independently from the editor page, media uploads are downright weird, and the editor toolbar is in the way more often than not.
