New page is / is not there
-
Hi. I checked FAQ but the answer did not quite fit my problem.
On my newest blog I have created a new page which is fine
but the second page I have created
http://theactoftravel.wordpress.com/1979/
shows a “not found” and “404” message
but not the info I put there.I have deleted the page twice and re-created it but to no avail.
I’m a novice but have not had this problem before.
Thanks for your help.

Have you tried another name for the page? I’m thinking it has something to do with the numbers.

Hi. I thought of that but I have another blog with two pages named “1” and “2” and it all works fine. I hope someone can help or it will just correct itself !

It could be theme-related. Some themes don’t like numbers. Try typing out “nineteen seventy-nine” as the name and see what happens.

Thanks that may have worked though I also managed to trick the software and got 1979 as the page name.
First I tried changing the name but it did not work so I deleted the page. I then made a new page with a word for the title, saved that then edited the name about 3 times until it was changed back to 1979. Either way I got what I wanted. There’s more then the right way to solve a problem !
Thanks!

I found that my particular theme doesn’t seem to like anything other than it’s default permalink format. I recently changed the format from http://www.robonzo.com/?p=123 (default) to http://www.robonzo.com/sample-post (custom format). This messed up all of my permalinks.
Hope that helps.

To clear this up. WordPress reserves such numbers at this spot in a URI for year based archives. http://5acrefarmer.wordpress.com/2008/ gives you an archive for 2008 and so on. It may seem ridiculous at first that this applies to 1979 as well but it follows a certain logic.

That makes sense actually. I might be in trouble when I do a page I want to name ‘2005’ though.
