New PAGE not included in page links at top
-
I’ve been using WordPress for years (with several websites) and just started a new blog … and am stumped at why my new “page” is not listed up in the header area. I was using My Life theme. I created a new page titled “Phones” but the header page links only showed Home About Contact. So I switched to your annual official theme thinking that your own theme would “fix” this. Same problem. Check on my smartphone with the mobile theme and it also only lists Home About Contact and does not include Phones. I tried putting a sequence number for the Phones page but that did not help. I have not played around with the site much at all, so I don’t think I disabled anything. Even tried restarting my Chromebook but that did not help. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help!

Here is a screen clip showing that the new page is recognized inside WP Admin:
Hmmm … won’t let me paste in the image … but what WP Admin shows is a list of my pages:
About
Contact
Phones

Did a Quick Edit on Phones and it does say “Published” … but it is not included in the pages list across the top! -
Just tried adding another new “page” to see if that helped … but alas, no … this new page also is not included in the page links at the top.

I tried going to WP ADMIN then APPEARANCE then THEMES … tried PREVIEW of ADAPTION theme and all my pages showed up in the page list on the top of the left column. Activated that theme and then two of the pages once again are NOT appearing in the list of pages!

I received a support reply suggesting manually adding pages to the menu. However, I have dozens of websites and have used wordpress for years and never have had to manually create my menu bar … it just automatically filled with the pages as I created them. I asked support to please check on this again.

SOLVED. Somehow my site thought I wanted custom menus (note that I did NOT choose that option myself though). The solution was to remove the custom menu option to get the site back to the default menus. I clicked on MENUS and it then displayed PRIMARY MENU … there was a trashcan icon to click to DELETE the PRIMARY MENU … I deleted it and then all was well again!
Here is the answer I got from support that clued me in on this … the actual steps I used are different than suggested but there probably are several ways to accomplish removing the custom menu!
Support suggested this:
Some themes (like your current Twenty Ten) will use a default menu showing all of your pages, unless you assign a custom menu. It sounds like this might be what you are used to!
To go to that state, follow these steps (we’re doing this in a different spot than you were in last time)
– Click on My Site > Customize
– Click on Menus
– Click on “Primary” (this is the custom menu you are currently displaying
– In the “Display Location” section, uncheck the box for “Primary Navigation”
– Click Save & PublishThis process will remove the custom menu, allowing the default menu to take over.
