New paid wp domain linked to old instance of wordpress free site. Wish to unlink accounts.

Hello, about a week ago I purchased what I thought to by a fresh, paid wordpress instance with wp hosted domain name. The new site is somehow linked and subordinate to an old (2015) abandoned free wordpress instance of ‘###.wordpress.com’. I wish to unlink and discard the old account. The new wp hosted site was intended to be stand-alone. Please help. Thank you.

@cavatime it would help if you could reference both web addresses that you’re referring to.
It sounds like you might be referring to an old free WordPress website which is associated with your new paid WordPress site on the same account. If so, you can go to:
My Sites -> Domains -> Select the undesired domain -> Edit site Address
Once here you can Change Blog Address and then Discard Current Address. -
@xpurichan thanks for responding. A few years ago I started a free blog 838marin.wordpress.com registering as cavatime but did nothing with it. Last week, completely forgetting about the 838marin blog, I created from scratch bluepinwheel.org entering through wp’s landing page for new domains with blog. Perhaps by using the same email address it associated the new blog with the old. Anyway, when I go to bluepinwheel.org and follow your suggestion to register the new blog and delete the old, I’m met with the error statement: The domain is already mapped to a WordPress.com site. In the WordPress.com Blog/Site Address Change page I am not allowed to change from 838marin.wordpress.com to bluepinwheel.org. I paid $99 for the new domain name and 2 years wp hosting.

@xpurichan – OK, I think I get this. This seems to be a matter of simply changing mapping to a new blog/site address *.wordpress.com mapping.

OK – got it. My bad. I did indeed create the new paid domain account under a different login. Learned something about mapping accounts though. Props to xpurichan!
