New Plans My Confusion = THIS POST!
-
Hello,
I currently have a custom domain @ $34/yr on my website as well as Custom Design @ $39/yr and WordAds. I see with the new WordPress plans, in order to keep everything I have, I would need to upgrade to the Premium plan @ $129/yr. You can see why paying an extra $56/yr for basically what I already have (plus some things I don’t need) is a little concerning for me.
My questions:
1. Do I have to upgrade? Like will it eventually become mandatory or will I just be grandfathered in with what I’ve got?
2. If I ‘upgrade’ to the personal plan will WordAds be deleted off my account?
3. It keeps telling me, it will ‘save me money’…I do not think this is true. (more a statement than a question, sorry.)Jenny

Hi there,
If you have existing upgrades on your site you can keep on renewing them as always. You’d only need to upgrade to a plan if you let a single upgrade expire, as we can’t add them back once they are removed from your site.
1. Do I have to upgrade? Like will it eventually become mandatory or will I just be grandfathered in with what I’ve got?
We hope to eventually have everyone on plans rather than single upgrade, but I don’t know of any plans to force anyone to convert to a plan as long as you keep renewing your existing upgrades in time, as I explained above.
2. If I ‘upgrade’ to the personal plan will WordAds be deleted off my account?
If you’re already part of WordAds upgrading to Personal won’t remove you. Users without Premium or Business can still apply for WordAds like always, and are approved once the meet the requirements. Premium and Business just offer the opportunity to be approved instantly for new users.
3. It keeps telling me, it will ‘save me money’…I do not think this is true. (more a statement than a question, sorry.)
The Premium Plan is more expensive than the combined total of your domain and Custom Design, true. But the plan also includes live chat support, extra storage space, additional options for Publicize, access to all Premium themes, ability to upload video files, all of which would cost much more than $129 if purchased separately.
If you don’t need those extras there’s no need to upgrade to a plan, as you can just continue with the upgrades you already have. Just please make sure you don’t let them expire.
