New post editor "improvements"

Ah, not really. I hate it. I no longer have access to the left sidebar with all the options for moving back to other things like links, stats, other pages and posts. I read this on the ‘closed’ sitcky –

The next time you select to use the classic editor instead of the new editor, we’ll remember it! From then on you’ll be directed back to the classic view instead, you won’t have to select it every time.”

Ummmm, no it doesn’t remember. I keep having to change back to classic every time I sign on. The “new” version doesn’t have the access I want. I want to be able to work on a post, go directly to appearance or widgets or stats. It is very difficult to figure out how to move around now. Is there not a way to stay with the classic mode and keep it? Why do software designers constantly think things need changing? Just leave it alone, it works well. Feel free to add your complaints to mine since the other thread is closed. (until the PTB closes this one too).

Pretty much agree with everything you said but… Be prepared… they will close this thread soon as they did it with this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-turn-the-new-editor-off/page/2?replies=47 and with several other beep beep boop related threads.

Happiness Engineer maxmanx said that he is pushing for a server-side setting instead of cookie settings. Why they closed the thread although many still have the issue that the new editor appears again and again, this is a riddle. They probably don´t want to see more discussion about it. If you ask me, this is pretty sad. They maybe don´t want to find out that there are many people who think that a server-side setting should have high priority.

Also from my side the question is still open. When do we get the posibility to store the setting on the server side so that the new editor never appeas again? Why did you close the thread even if the issue is still there?

There is this workaround… you can bookmark: [your-blog]/wp-admin/edit.php to edit and publish posts in the classic editor as maxmanx said. However, this is simply just a workaround and won´t help if you directly click on “edit” on any of your excisting posts. You will again see the new editor or you have to go the route via “posts>all posts” in the dashboard to search the article you want to edit.

I don´t get how a developer comes to the idea to store such a very important setting via cookies althought there are enough people who would be glad to use the classic editor forever. This must be stored on the server side and I hope we get this feature ASAP so that we can finally enjoy to work on our blogs.

WordPress… did you close the other thread because there will be no server-side setting to remind the classic editor? Or do you already work on this feature?

    Hi there!

@fnpcarole – Can you check that you have third party cookies enabled? Just visit this link and the site will let you know:

@diaryofdennis – I’m sorry you’re still frustrated with the recent changes. We closed the major threads because there was minimal constructive information coming in through them. And now that the major issues with the editor have been dealt with, it’s easier to handle individual threads about these issues.

As for your concerns about a cookie-based setting rather than a server-side one, we want our users to continue to experience the new services we offer. The way this has been implemented is meant to be a compromise between the old and the new.
