New Post Readers — How Do They Find Me?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Everyone,

Sometimes when I post something new I get a few Likes out of “nowhere” and I’m not quite sure how people do this. I suspect the new posts appear somewhere but where? The “Freshly Pressed” tab (http://wordpress.com/#!/fresh/) seem to be showing some filtered postings and the “Topics” tab (which I sometimes used) is not present any more.

So… I”m not quite sure how things work. Could someone please explain?

Also, how come I get Likes without registering any Views in the Stats?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There are several different ways that readers can start following your blog.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/following/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/followers/

A follower can click the “like” button without visiting your blog and creating a page view stat.

    • A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts in the Readomatic reader on the home page of WordPress.com
    • A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts on the Topics pages.
    • A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts when using an app.
    • An email subscriber can click the “like” button in the email they receive of your new posts without visiting your blog.
    • P.S. To compel readers to click into my blog to read the full post I have set my RSS Feed to “summary” on this page > Settings > Reading

I suggest that you use the step-by-step tutorial Staff have provided for new members http://learn.wordpress.com

Thans, timethief, for your kind replies.

I started looking through the learn.wordpress.com material but is this still up to date? For example, the page here http://learn.wordpress.com/get-acquainted/ shows a different capture of the tabbed-header displayed on the WordPress homepage than the one I’m currently seeing. (It did looked like the one in the picture a week ago or so, but it changed since.) Could these tabs be customized somewhere, somehow?

What I currently see is: “New Post | Reader | Notifications | Stats | My Blog | Freshly Pressed”. (As opposed to: “New Post | Reader | Freshly Pressed | Topics | My Stats” as it used to be until not so long ago.)

Where did the “Topics” page moved?

Also, Readomatic is the app running behind the “Reader” tab or is it a totally different feature?

    Thanks!

At WordPress.com change is the staus quo.
Click Reader http://wordpress.com/#!/read/ then click “Explore Topics” in the Reader.

    I see. Thanks!

So, someone may discover my posts by using the “Explore Topics” feature. Is there any other venue where the postings appear?

I’m not thinking feeds, emails or any other ways where PREVIOUS readers could track of my postings, I’m just trying to understand how someone new may DISCOVER my blog.

I cannot even get to the Explore Topics feature. Since last night when I click on “Reader” the page beneath it fails to load. I simply get a tiny zero in the upper left corner.
