New post: when in draft status, is it visible to the public?

    Hi all!

    http://mrsbitch.wordpress.com again.

When I am creating a new post, I have always set the visibility to Private (I assume just for that particular post) until I am ready to publish. Do I need to do this? If I am in Draft mode, is the post visible to the public as I work on it, or is just that post not visible, or is my whole blog temporarily unavailable?
When I am updating a post that has been published, is it visible to the public, or, again, is my blog temporarily unavailable?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

On your actual blog, a private post is only visible to you (as long as you’re logged in).

On your actual blog, a draft won’t be visible – not even to you.

Private is better than draft, because you can check the actual result before others see it.

When you’re updating a post, your blog is not unavailable: visitors will see the earlier version till you click Update Post.
