New Posters getting upset with Unfrindliness by WordPress
-
WP users are trying to log in and cannot.
They currently have a user name and PW on a wordpress.org site and are not being recognized
at the WordPress.com site. WP is giving them a lot of grief and NOT user friendly at all.
Blog url: http://pumasunleashed.wordpress.com/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities. In order to log in at WordPress.com, they need to register for a WordPress.com account.
-
They tried your suggestion early on..
The response they got from WP was they
needed an invitation from the administratorLike I said- very user unfriendly-.
-
-
Oh yes- then they were put into a 20 questions monologue.
after spending an hour trying to login- they gave up
exhausted and disgusted with WP.Why not use drop down menus for that kind of information
rather than tying up everyones time in minutia they can ask
about another time if they feels so inclined. All I know is not everyone in the whole wide world is or needs
to be proficient in protocols. Make the login process super friendly
instead of forcing people to waste so much of their valuable time
trying to please Word Press protocols. All they should need to log into WP is a working e-mail address and
a user-name period. -
If people are subscribed to wordpress.org
make that a notice in the login process. i.eAre you already a member at WP.org ?(y/n)
Do you wish to register at which WP.com? (y/n)so simple a fix just asking those 2 question that
I’m sure the owner, Matt would appreciate you
making WP friendly to everyone including those
who do not have benefit of computer savvy.. -
Well, WordPress.org user-bases are entirely self-contained, so that wouldn’t work out much.
There isn’t one WordPress.com community and one WordPress.org community. There’s one WordPress.com community, and a separate community for every single WordPress.org installation.
When signing up at WordPress.com, new users who don’t want their own WordPress.com blog can click the “signup for just a username” link where they’ll only be asked to chose their username, password, and enter their email address.

______________Generally speaking it amounts to the same thing. Where all of the new posters coming to my blog were all registered members of a wordpress.org blog they are not aware of the difference. Trying to use the same info-i.e. user name and PW is rejected by the login at WP.com.. and why I suggested posing the question at the login site.

_____________I know I saw that- what do you think is the ratio of people just wanting to post a comment compared to the people wanting to create a personal blog?
10-1
20-1
30-1
50-1I think it would be somewhere like 50 to 1..
That would mean the creation of a WP blog is secondary to someone just wanting to post a comment.

WordPress.com is blogging service, and we currently have 32 million blogs to 38 million users, so I’d say that most people do come here to register blogs. Also, most blogs here don’t require registration to post comments (you can enable or disable this via Settings -> Discussion in your Dashboard, and it’s off by default).
I’m not discounting your request, just wanted to put the numbers out there since you asked.
We’re always looking for new ways to smooth out the process.
