New posts disappear every time

  • Unknown's avatar

Every time I try to publish or save a new post, I get a page that has a WordPress logo and says “are you sure you want to edit this page?” with a yes or no button. Whichever you choose you are redirected back to the new post page and if you try to view the post it comes up as a 404 error and is completely gone.

At that point, you can start over and paste the post info (I started copying each one) into a new post and it will work as it is supposed to.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

That’s strange as I’ve never seen that “are you sure” before, even when editing a post or page.

What’s the URL when you write a new post? Should be something like:

    http://%5Byour blog URL].wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

Yup, the URL looks right — http://moralauthority.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

It’ wierd that it only happens the first time I try to save a new post.

I looked at the page I’m directed to again and the actual text is: Are you sure you want to edit this post ” ” , with the empty quotation marks. This started about a week ago.

I’ve had the same exact problem for abour 4 days.

Adding the modlook tag to this thread so that Mark will hopefully see it.

I do note that both of you guys are on Comcast though. I wonder if this is another proxy issue on their end.

    What browser are you using?
    Does using another help?

I also got that some time ago (just one time), a mexican friend too. would be a “keyword”?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m on Verizon and I’ve had the same problem on and off for months.

But yet no one will answer the questions posed to them….

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s working the right way now.

I’m using IE 6. Haven’t tried FF. It worked fine for a couple of weeks and then just popped up last week. As of today, I am not experiencing the problem.

If you guys did something to fix this — Thanks.

You’re welcome {said she} on behalf of the elves in the backend. :)

I don’t believe the snark was unnecessary, but okay. The problem’s not consistant. It happens at work, where I run IE but can’t remember which version off-hand. It happens at home, where I sometimes I use IE 7 and sometimes MSN Explorer 9.5. (I don’t intend to download Firefox just to find out if WordPress works correctly on it.) But it doesn’t happen every time – it’ll stop for a while, then come back. For a while there the Save & Continue Editing button disappeared and in that case I noticed it stopped. But when I posted today, the Save & Continue Editing button was back, along with the ‘Are you sure you want to edit this post ” “‘ problem and the eaten posts.

Oh well, I spoke too soon. It’s happening again.

For whatever reason this used to happen to me from time to time. The workaround I found was to highlight all of the post (Control A on my machine) and copy it to the clipboard (control C) and, while everything was still highlighted, hit Publish. Then it went through without the warning coming up. See if that works for you. Even if you lose the post, you’ll still have it on the clipboard and it’s the work of a moment to do another.

  • Unknown's avatar

That is what I’ve been doing. Hoped there was a way to fix it since it just started out of no where.

I don’t believe the snark was unnecessary,

I like helping folks. I don’t like being ignored when I’m trying to help them. It’s rather rude actually.

I’m sure we’d all be extremely grateful to have this problem solved eventually. As it stands, using raincoaster’s workaround – which is what I typically do, too – publishing each new post takes two attempts. Write it, copy it, lose it, paste it, THEN publish.

  • Unknown's avatar

No, it shouldn’t take two attempts. Click the PUBLISH button while everything is *still selected* and it should go through just fine. I know doing it twice works, but this should save you one step.

Ooooohh, okay. I misread. Now, that IS helpful. Thank you! I’ll definitely give it a try.
