New Posts Don't Appear in Reader
-
I have a couple readers using WordPress Reader who say that my blog entries will appear in their Reader for a few days and then disappear from their reader for a time, then reappear.
Is there something about the way my blog is set up that causes erratic appearances in WordPress Reader for subscribed followers?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your site may have mistakenly gotten caught in our automated spam catching system. I have reset that.
Let me know if that fixes the issue.

What did I do to cause that to happen? I post once a day normally at 6:00 a.m. and I don’t even have all that many readers.

My latest post, published today, did not show up in the Reader; though when I searched for it by the tag “Weekly Photo Challenge” it did appear. Unfortunately, the excerpt I created for it did not appear. What’s the problem? Here’s the post:
We Are The Champions! on AustinDetails.me

@austindeals
Here’s the block of tags and categories assigned to that single post:Categories: Art + Architecture, Art + Photo, Art + Austin, Vanishing Austin
Tagged as: Vanishing Austin, postaday, Weekly Photo Challenge, Austin landmarks, signs, vintage signs, Austin photography, survivors, champions
All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts
As you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.
You are inadvertently spamdexing AKA tag spamming. And, you ought to be more concerned about your posts not appearing and being well ranked on Google and Bing SERPS (search results pages) than not appearing on the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for that.
The rule of thumb is to assign to your posts the least, not the most, combined number of only relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the individual post content.

Thanks, TT, I’m aware of the under 15 tags and categories requirement. In counting the tags I used, I count 9. In counting the Categories, I count 4. Thus I used 13. Can you clarify? (Or are you counting EACH word? That’s not how they display to me in the composer, btw). Thanks. (Incidentally, I deleted a category and a few tags this morning, and bingo! The post showed up in the Reader.)
Original Categories: Art + Architecture, Art + Photo, Art + Austin, Vanishing Austin

staff-ozmodiar Can you clarify the standards for number of tags and categories and exclusion from the Reader? thanks.
-
The maximum number is the combined total of categories and tags which must not exceed 15.
-
These compounded categories may be causing your issue:
Art + Architecture
Art + Photo
Art + Austin -
It should be individual tags, not words. But I’m with Timethief in that I’m curious if the compound tags are the issue. you might try without them.

I’m a librarian and to us these compound categories are treated two individual categories. -
@austindetails
Can you try a post without the compound tags? And perhaps put a fairly unique (temporary) tag in there as well for testing. Perhaps:
teating1234hi
Or something like that.

Thanks, all, whatever the problem, it seems fixed now. I’ve just posted a new one, using my “compound” categories, and it is appearing correctly in the Reader. See it here:

A story I posted on Oct 10 seemed to work alright as well. Regarding the compound categories, they are an integral part of my site and my intent, so I am not going to remove them. I’ll just restrict my Categories, and Tags, a good deal more than the 15 the Reader allows.
