New Reader Format

I wish to know why, in my Reader, when I click on a blog post in order to read it, I am presented with a new popup that displays a bare-bones mobile-looking post instead of being taken to the blog post itself. Yes, there is a button to “View Original”, but why is that not the default, and why is there no setting to pick which version I’d rather read? And why is there no announcement about the new Reader?

It is a shame that people can spend so much time (and even money) customizing their blog to look they way they want it to look, only for the Reader to deny readers the opportunity to enjoy it by default.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Agreed. Reader format is NOW a problem. A few days ago, pre-change, it worked fine. NOW the font size is size humongous, which means I can’t even see a whole post summary.

And NOW, as the other member has said, we can’t see the post we want. When we do click on “View Original” for example, Reader is closed to keep open BOTH the Original and the unhelpful summary. And as said, Reader is CLOSED. That means now I need to go RE-OPEN Reader in order to see other posts I follow.

This does not work. It is not efficient. What is the reason of making us do so many extra steps to do the same thing I could do more easily a few days ago?

    NOT HAPPY with this.

First, I do not like the gigantic font size in Reader. I am not blind. What does that gain us?

Second, why the intermediate pop up step before going to the blog I want to read? That is a waste going to and leaving the blog. What is that for anyway?

I agree with the others that do not like the new reader format. If I click on a post, then obviously I want to read it. Why do I then have to click again to actually read it? And then when I go back to the reader, then I have to close the box for this secondary waste of time step.

Please go back to the old reader format. Instead of this new change, it would be helpful to have a way to organize the blogs I follow. Perhaps an option to set up folders or to show them by categories.

    Thanks!

And since you don’t go to the blog – the blog probably gets screwed out of the page view – fine deal

the fonts and all the previous reasons why the new design sucks are accurate – also the reader is missing new Posts and the reader in the PC does not match the Posts on my Android App – great leap – mostly off a cliff

  • I want to agree with what the other members have said. Yesterday still I clicked on a post title and was taken directly to the blog in question. Now I click on a post title and get a pop-up and have to click again to go to the blog. This is entirely unnecessary and actually detracts from the overall Worpress experience. The other changes you’ve made looks great, but the Reader worked fine as it was. If it ain’t broke…

I like the new reader format and the other changes that have been made. All improvements in my opinion. Well done WP!

I don’t like the new Reader. The font used for the headings is too large. Too many clicks are needed to get from Reader to Blog and back again and on to the next Blog. I’m too lazy to follow this through, and will probably end up reading fewer blogs.

The new reader does mess with blog stats – I will get likes on a post and then my stats tell me I have 0 views, presumably because everyone reads it on the new reader instead of clicking through to my blog. Bloggers use those numbers to figure out what content gets the most traffic, and we’re crippled without it.

Sorry WordPress – I appreciate the attempt to make the Reader experience “easier,” but I am very unhappy with how this makes my blog stats useless!

I wish they’d change it back to the old reader! This new one is just impractical. :-(

Clearly that is not going to happen.
