New scam pop-up advert name warning

An update regarding the scam pop-up situation that is affecting so many of us. For much of the day I have had no issues and thought that my site had gone back to normal. Just now while logged in and scrolling down reading one of my posts a warning/blocked site message came up warning about the same vodafone customer reward scheme ad, but this time the site name is no longer Mega Draws. Click but is now showing as Winaura . ICU

The issue is clearly with the adverts that are being placed onto our sites. Can staff not just remove adverts across WordPress until they have found out exactly what is causing this and have fixed it?

It is really worrying. It also doesn’t look good at all for visitors to our sites to see these messages.

Just wanted to let everyone know about the site name changing.

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I spent ten minutes spring cleaning my browser and getting rid of all history and cookies (much to my own inconvenience). Then I visited my site when logged out and all appeared well. Then the cookie preferences box appeared. I ticked everything as an experiment. After refreshing my site, within seconds an advert began loading in the top right of my sidebar. At the very same time that scam BT page took over my site.

As if the pop up ad isn’t bad enough IT IS COMPLETELY FRAUDULANT AND WORDPRESS.COM ARE COMMITTING A CRIME. British Telecom is a UK only company. Why would they offer an Amazon 1000 Euro gift card? I am going to alert BT to this and let their legal team get involved.

It looks like I will have to put a disclaimer front and centre of my site warning visitors to untick the Cookie preferences box of each and every WordPress.com site they may visit.

Sadly I remember a time when I actually enjoyed adverts. Remember the humorous ones on ITV in the 1970s with the likes of Joan Collins and Leonard Rossiter or the Cadbury Smash Martians (check out YouTube) etc etc??

TBH – As far as I can see from the recent forum posts, it’s mostly free sites affected. I don’t understand why TPTB just don’t shut off the ads for everyone until they fix this or find another ad provider. The current situation reflects really badly on them.

Update(12th July). While logged in this afternoon I’ve just had another warning/blocked site message while scrolling down reading one of my published posts(I guess this must be happening due to the advert space located at the very bottom of each post).

Today the blocked site name is defend warden . click

Perhaps this is reverse psychology. They think that eventually they will wear us down and we will relent and upgrade to a paid plan to escape these adverts. YouTube thought they were being clever by not being content with ads at the beginning of videos but now smack bang in the middle too. I didn’t upgrade to no-ads. I just moved on.

Confirmed “Defend Warden” is the malicious redirect of the day. WordPress must know of this. It is bad for our WordPress blogs and bad for WordPress itself.

Update as of 13th July. Just received a new blocked site/warning message when logged in and on my homepage this morning. The site name has changed once again. It is now charmed slot . click

    Please do something about this.

  • Hi there, I wanted to update this thread! As mentioned in a similar thread, our new ads partner has implemented a fix that should take care of these scam-type ads. Please report back if you are still seeing them.
