New site

    Hi there,

I’m owning http://www.samueltrepanier.com under wordpress.com. In the next weeks, a friend will build me new wordpress site that will be hosted on the same server at Bluehost.

Now I’m trying to understand the logistic in order to have both site under my wordpress account after he’s done building it.

I don’t want him to have full access of my account here, so I’m trying to see what is the best way to do this.

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Cheers,
    Samuel

For a wordpress.COM site, this article shows how to add contributors and this one defines what each role is, depending on how much access you want these contributors to have. (Also, for websites hosted outside of wordpress.COM, like on wordpress.ORG, the .ORG forum will have more information.)

    Hope this helps!

  • Hi there,

Your site, samueltrepanier.com, is not with us. That is a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software. The reason you see it in your WordPress.com account is because you connected it here using the Jetpack plugin, but the site itself is on Bluehost’s servers.

So to have the new site show here in your WordPress.com account as well, you need to install Jetpack on the new site and connect it to your account like you did with the first one. You can do this the moment WordPress is installed on the site – you don’t need to wait until your friend is done. Your friend will build your site using the WP-Admin dashboard and cPanel at Bluehost, so he won’t need any access to your WordPress.com account.

See here for instructions how to install and connect Jetpack:

    Jetpack

    Hi Kokkieh,

Totally right, sorry if I haven’t been precise enough…
So if I understand well, he will create new access for site.com/wp-login.php and from there he will give me the access when it’s done? Are these access can be change later on, or should I give i’m a proper username to use already?

    Thanks a lot!

    Best,
    Samuel

  • Every developer on self-hosted WordPress have their own way of doing things.

If you set up the initial install of the site and create the primary username, you’ll need to invite him as an admin so he can have full access and finish building the site. If, on the other hand, he sets up the site from scratch, he’ll invite you as an admin user, and then set your user as the primary and delete his user once he’s done.

Either way, when connecting Jetpack make sure that you are the one doing it while logged into both the new site’s dashboard and your WordPress.com account. That will ensure the site is associated with your username in our system, and not your friend’s.

That’s exactly the details I was looking for! Thanks for taking the time to review the process and suggest me the line to follow :)

    Cheers!
