New Site Maps to Old Site (Unwanted)

I purchased a new domain in order to create a sister site of different content to my original site. However, I was not aware that by using the same user account it apparently meant that all that would happen is that I’d be out some money for a web domain that just redirects to the original one (not my intention).
So I have a few questions: can the new address be made into it’s own site as originally intended without having to redo the whole process? If not, since I am within the two day window but weekend support is apparently still down on Monday, will I actually get my refund if I cancel? And finally, if I cancel will the new domain address be gone forever? For continuity I need that specific domain for a site that I will happily work on here but want it to be it’s own actual site.
