new site query
-
Hi again,
I asked yesterday about creating a site to market and sell my ebooks. I I currently have 25 short ebooks for sale, but I plan on expanding this range over time. (Probably adding a new one every month).I also have audiobooks that I would want ‘protected’ in the same way. These are also 25 but will increase over time.
If all this is possible in WordPress, Which plan do you think would be better for me?
As you mentioned yesterday, it will not be possible to ‘protect’ the e-materials post-purchase, but it is important to me that I be able to do this. I mean, I do not want them shareable. For example, in Audible you can only listen to the short stories within the audible app.
Do you know if there are plugins or third party software that you are aware of that could prevent the ebooks from being shared post-purchase?
Thank you for your help.

Hi there,
That kind of functionality is not built in to the default WordPress.com platform, so you would need our Business Plan in order to be able to add “plugins” to your site to add functionality that it does not ave currently.
As you mentioned yesterday, it will not be possible to ‘protect’ the e-materials post-purchase, but it is important to me that I be able to do this. I mean, I do not want them shareable. For example, in Audible you can only listen to the short stories within the audible app.
One option I can think of is to embed audio and or ebook on pages on your site, but only provide access to that page for folks who make a purchase. You can do that with this membership plugin + the WooCommerce plugin, which is what adds ecommerce functionality.
The advantage of this method is that no file is “downloaded” or changes hands. The limitation is that your customers will need to read/listen to the content on your site.
Otherwise I can’t think of a “download” method that would result in some kind of copy controls on the file itself. This is not something that WordPress can handle.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
