new site-transfer or map-site name

I am just getting started…have a domain name already and have to decide wether to transfer or map it. I would like to make sure that once my site is completed, my customers will only see my domain name in the top bar without the ‘wordpress’. Is that possible?

    Hi there,

Every WordPress.com blog comes with free yoursitename.wordpress.com Domain.

You can design the site with free domain once the blog is ready & then point to your original domain.

If you buy any paid plan, then you will get free one domain credit in which you can purchase a new domain, Transfer an existing domain to wordpress.com or Map a domain to wordpress.com.

It is advised you to transfer the domain to wordpress.com
So you don’t have to manually change any DNS records for the domain.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks!

For things to happen the way you want, you would need to purchase one of the paid plans of WordPress.

You will find the details of the paid plans here: WordPress Paid Plans

Once you purchase a plan, you will get the option to have a free custom domain name (yoursite.com). So, you can proceed to buy the domain name from WordPress.com.

(This way is better as you do not need to do any manual change to the Domain Name Servers.)

If you already have your website domain name with a separate registrar, then you have two options:

    1. You can transfer the domain to WordPress (Support Link)

    2. You can map the domain name to WordPress.com name servers. For this, you can contact the support of your hosting company (from where you have bought the domain name) and request them to change the nameservers to point towards Wodpress.com. (Support Link)

As you mentioned you are just starting with WordPress.com. So, do not get worried. There are abundant support docs available to guide you. You also have access to live chat as a part of your paid plans.

Hope the above information helped you :). If you have any further doubts, do add to the comments below.

    Regards
    Deb
