New starter – need a few questions answered

    We want to build a sports website. Apart from content we wondered how we could setup a website and also easily create a database so we can host members and a club directory so our visitors can search for either. We have never setup a website but I am sure the online help would be easy to get to grips with but I couldn’t find anything for setting up a database. Any help would be appreciated.

    I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

    Hi,

    Sounds like a great idea for a website!

    To create the custom database structure you’re looking for, you would want to look at plugins. Not sure if there’s something already out there that would do what you’re looking for or if you would need a custom plugin.

    Hopefully this answers your question, if not let us know and I or someone else can explain it better. If you need anything else let us know that too!

    Hi there,

    There’s definitely plugins that lets you create this on a WordPress site. I’m guessing you’ll want to combine a membership plugin, and a directory plugin – from a quick search for the latter it seems “Business directory” plugins are the most common, but I’m sure there would be one you can use as a member directory.

    That said, the best place to ask for advice on the best plugins to use for this is the WordPress.org forums – the people there are the ones who make the WordPress software and plugins for that software, so they’ll have the most experience on what’s available:

    Hi folks, thanks for your replies.

    We have several editor users of our website. We need to be able to specify a set of users who can only edit a specific page each. The way we do this at present is each user allocated to a page have a page specific login so they can to update it e.g.

    Club A Page URL, User 1,2
    Club B Page URL, User 2,3

    Is there something out there that allows that?

    Lastly, we would be looking at mass emailing capability based on member lists e.g. send email to all members, send email to all players etc.

    Hi there,

    Yes, all these are possible with the use of plugins and external services. However, as @kokkieh mentioned in their reply, it’s best to ask for plugin recommendations in the WordPress.org forums.
