New Theme

  • Unknown's avatar

Well I’m down a rabbit hole. I switched to a new theme (which I’ve done numerous times) and the side bar with links nor widgets don’t appear NOR are carried into the new design. I see the new theme customization but don’t want to manually add the 100s of links back…any thoughts? I read through the forum and don’t see an answer. Thanks.

  • Hello there,

So when a theme changes, any widgets or blocks that don’t go into the same or similar area would go into a section called Inactive widgets in the widget panel seen here.

If you scroll to the bottom, and open in active widgets you’ll see these links there.

Where do you need this content to show on the site exactly?

    Hi,

First, thanks for replying. I appreciate it.
I’d like to place the links in a side panel/menu. The footer would be ok too I guess. Links are tricky as I see no connection to them in customize, only categories, pages, etc.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi there,

You can add sidebar and footer blocks (widgets) again here, under the Widgets tab on the left:
    https://wordpress.com/customize/

Please note that this specific theme does not have the option to display a sidebar on the blog page (currently set as your homepage.) That layout is coded to show the blog posts only, but individual pages other than the main blog page do show sidebars.

Footer widgets will show up on all pages of the site, including the blog page.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
