New theme altering format of previous posts

Hi – I have recently changed to a new theme. I am currently trying to make the most of my new theme by editing each previous post with a featured image. But I am having two issues.
Issue 1 – I can’t seem to edit the text of any posts published at any time without the format going hay-wire.
Issue 2 – posts pre-dated January 2012 especially, the text AND the images are being “un-formatted.”Please assist! Thank you

For example, changes to the text has muddled up the entire format of these posts.
