New theme = lost pages
-
I’ve looked through all the FAQ’s and forums and can’t find an answer so I’m hoping someone on here can help;
I just updated my theme from Elegant Grunge to Dusk till Dawn and I lost myheader (no big I can re-load that) but I also lost all of my buttons for my pages.
Under the ‘Pages’ section it still shows them all there still published, and if I click on them it takes me to them, but there are no buttons to access them on the home page any more. I tried doing a new page, which it did fine, but I still couldn’t access it from the home page.
Here is the blog; wearegoingonawitchhunt
Thank you.

Dusk to Dawn is a theme that does not have a horizontal menu. To display a custom menu in that theme you need to use the custom menu wiget in your sidebar.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/If you created a custom menu then Troubleshooting – My menu isn’t appearing
Go to the custom menu page in the dashboard Apearance > Menus and in the “theme location” module at upper left select your custom menu from the pulldown and then click “save”.If you have not created a custom menu you can use this guide to create one. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

Cool bananas – I made the custom menu (it was very easy thanks to your directions) and, obviously, it put them in the side bar.
I would prefer them in the header so I checked your list under wordpress tips and it lists my theme (Dusk till Dawn) under, ‘No Header Tabs’ but there is a side note which says, [but yes if you load a custom menu] [see note 7]
Note 7 says; 7. Brand New Day, Dusk to Dawn, Oulipo, Retro MacOS, Suburbia: tabs actually in sidebar.I’m probably being really dim – but does this mean you can have a custom menu in the header or you can’t?
Sorry for being a pain.

It means you can’t have a custom menu either above or below the header as the theme is not coded to display a horizontal menu. You have to use a custom menu widget in the sidebar instead.

@chantalhalpin: In most themes the top menu is a horizontal menu in the header area, and it automatically displays links to all your published pages. That’s not the case in Dusk to Dawn: the top menu is in the sidebar, and it displays nothing unless you create and activate a custom menu.
@TT: A custom menu, not a custom menu widget.

@chantalhalpin
If you are attached to the Dusk to Dawn theme you create a custom menu in your dashboard . Appearance > Menu http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
Then you use the custom menu widget to display the custom menu links in your sidebar Appearance > Widgets > Custommenu widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/ -
@chantalhalpin: You’re welcome.
@TT: No, that’s exactly what I objected to. You just activate a custom menu in the Theme Locations module, you don’t “use a custom menu widget to display it”.

Please read the thread more carefully, TT. What you just quoted is correct; but you also wrote (three times) that you need a custom menu widget, and that’s not correct.

Hey there – my ‘pages’ under my header vanished on me using the Oxygen template – where do i get them back?
-
Please don’t hijack unrelated threads. If you do a forum search for Oxygen, you’ll probably find your answer.
