new theme or use current
-
So I have been asked to give a facelift/ fresh approach to a website that is currently using basel theme..
the website has 1000s of products within categories
will changing to a new theme be difficult.. are there any guidelines for it..
not entirely familiar with wordpress.. i did some work with it before ..Any advice would be appreciated
thank you -
Changing themes is very easy, just choose a new theme and it’s there.
The only things you _may_ need to do is move the widgets and re-assign the menu location, should only take a few minutes. :)

Thank you ☺️
Are you sure it won’t affect categories etc? Will it affect woo commerce or does the theme have to be compatible with it?
How long do you think it would take for a junior developer to develop their own theme?
-
It won’t affect any existing content.
WooCommerce is compatible with all themes, though some themes do offer additional styling to make it look better.
How long it takes to develop a theme depends on a lot of factors, including experience, knowledge, and how complex you want it to be: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/

Thank you
Well I wouldn’t have a lot of experience or too much knowledge with WordPress
I did a little php but nothing advancedProbably the aim of the company is to get a fresh website up and running and maybe should just use a theme and then work on the digital marketing elements to help them increase profits.. it’s hard to know what to do though. I just don’t want to tell them their new website won’t be ready for 6 months when they’re just a small business and not web development but they did ask for certain things like customer login and prices to be different for a manager of a company to a junior buyer like a porter. They asked for a lot of things to be honest

Isn’t that the truth these days?
It kinda sounds like you could give them a refreshed look with a new theme and some customization to match their branding. But the other asks involve plugins / extensions of WooCommerce, and it may be wise to stage the site or work with backups before implementing them.
As for which plugins to use, can you contact the WooCommerce sales team directly? They may be able to recommend extensions that will work for you.
