New to word press and having trouble changing themes

    Hi everyone!

    I’m bran new to word press, I’ve been using blogspot for a while, but I feel terribly limited with the option of themes, since I’m more interested in a magazine style than a diary style.

    I opened an account on word press, thinking I could upload a free theme from the internet, but I can’t find the upload new theme button, no matter how much I search for it.

    So I don’t like any of the free themes offered by word press and I can’t find a way of uploading the one I love.

    I’m using the free wordpress.com and I never purchased any premium , neither have my own domain.

    How can I upload my favorite theme?

    We do not have FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we not able to upload third party themes.

    The only themes you can use on a free hosted WordPress.com blog are those found here > Appearance > Themes and showcased here > http://wordpress.com/themes/ We cannot access and edit any templates underlying our themes. Only Staff can edit as every blog wearing the same theme is using the same template.

    Unless you are prepared to pay for a VIP account, http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/ there is no upgrade you can purchase that changes this at WordPress.COM.

    To upload themes you need to hire a web host and set up a WordPress.ORG install. To clearly understand the differences between WordPress.COM free hosted blogs and WordPress>ORG installs for self hosting read this comparison > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Ok, I understand now I won’t be able to get the theme I really like for as long as I’m using the basic wordpress.COM.

    I can’t afford to have a VIP account neither.

    It actually sounds more complicated than I ever imagined, since the only thing I actually wanted was to put this theme ( http://blogtemplate4u.com/?visit=top-wordpress.net/demo/BlogPress/?themedemo=downtown ) as my blog theme.

    I start to think wordpress is even more frustrating than the blogspot :(

    So I woulld have to pay to get a web host and then do the whole thing myself, correct?

    Just one last question, if instead of having my blog as, let’s say: heartofavagabond.wordpress.com, if I’d get the heartofavagabond.com by paying $18 a year, could I then upload my chosen theme?

    I’m trying to figure out the cheapest way of having the theme I like.
