New to WordPress

I am very new to WordPress and still trying to figure things out. I have a few questions.
First, I am trying to add media such as images and document links to my posts and I don’t see the Add Media button shown in the support article. In fact the post editor interface in the article doesn’t match what I’m seeing at all. How do I insert media that I’ve already added to my media library?
Second, can you have multiple blogs at once? I have two blog pages on my site because I’m using my site for two different things. I want posts to be on only one blog page, but when I publish a post, it goes to both pages.
Lastly, can you edit page URLs? When I made my site I made the default contact page into something else and added a contact page later. So now I have two pages that say ‘contact’ in the URL and I’d rather the URL reflect the page’s actual title.

  • Hi there,

First, I am trying to add media such as images and document links to my posts and I don’t see the Add Media button shown in the support article. In fact the post editor interface in the article doesn’t match what I’m seeing at all.

What support article are you referring to? Can you give me a link, please?

The only official support pages for WordPress.com are found at https://wordpress.com/support, and if you search for “add image” it will lead you to the support page for adding an image block to your posts:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/image-block/

You can also just drag-and-drop image files directly from your computer into the editor, and it should select the correct block and upload the image automatically.

For documents you’ll use a file block.

You can find a detailed overview of the editor here:

Second, can you have multiple blogs at once? I have two blog pages on my site because I’m using my site for two different things. I want posts to be on only one blog page, but when I publish a post, it goes to both pages.

The word “blog” refers to your entire site, and you can have as many sites in your account as you want.

But I think you’re rather referring to having two blog feeds, i.e. two listings of posts on different topics, correct?

A site can only have one blog feed, and that feed always shows all published posts on a site. But you can create category feeds by adding categories to your posts according to the topic, and then you can add these category feeds directly to the site menu. That way, if someone clicks on the category in the menu, they’ll see a page that only lists posts with that category.

A category feed cannot be set as the front page of the site.

Lastly, can you edit page URLs? When I made my site I made the default contact page into something else and added a contact page later. So now I have two pages that say ‘contact’ in the URL and I’d rather the URL reflect the page’s actual title.

Edit the page, make sure the sidebar on the right is on the Document tab, and click on Permalink. You can change the URL slug there.

Thanks so much. This has helped tremendously. I have one more question. Can you control what posts appear on the home page?

I’m guessing my answer is on one of the support pages, but I couldn’t look into it because the search bar isn’t working. Might wan to have someone look into it.

  • Hi there,

Can you control what posts appear on the home page?

Yes. You can use the Blog Posts block to display specific posts. More information on how to set this up here:
