New to WordPress
-
Hello. I am in the process of searching for a platform for a new website and considering WordPress. I am also looking at using Inventory Source as they have our vendor we will be using listed under their API for integration. We already have an account with Bluedog for payment processing. Question 1: Will using WordPress be effective to allow Inventory Source to upload product images, prices and real time from our vendor directly to my WordPress website? Question 2: By using Bluedog for my payment processor, is there any other apps, plugins I need to use them? Question 3: I am not sure what plan to choose, either the $25 or $45 monthly plan? I see you have to pay for an annual plan as month to month is not available, why is that option not available?

Hi there,
I’m not familiar with either Inventory Source or Bluedog, so cannot say whether they will work with WordPress.com. If those services offer WordPress plugins, you should be able to use them on our Business Plan, but I can’t guarantee that, as we cannot test each of the tens-of-thousands of WordPress plugins that exist for compatibility with our setup.
If you upgrade to Business and find those plugins don’t work, you can cancel for a full refund within 30 days.
Question 3: I am not sure what plan to choose, either the $25 or $45 monthly plan? I see you have to pay for an annual plan as month to month is not available, why is that option not available?
The eCommerce plan comes with the WooCommerce ecommerce plugin, the Storefront theme, and several free and premium add-ons for those two products pre-installed. Otherwise it’s identical to the Business Plan, so unless you plan on using everything included in the eCommerce plan, the Business Plan should be sufficient.
We don’t offer monthly payment options on WordPress.com. All upgrade plans are bought for either a year, or two years at a time.

So here are some more details on what I would like to do. Inventory Source is a 3rd party website that has an agreement with our vendor, which is Kroll International. Inventory Source has the ability to integrate their API directly to my wordpress website. That will allow Inventory Source to upload inventory, product images, pricing etc directly to my wordpress website. I hope these details help you understand what I am trying to accomplish. For Bluedog, payment processor, they said they integrate with my wordpress site as well using authorize.net
As far as the plans, I thought I had to choose ecommerce plan because I was selling online, but if the business plan will work, that will be even better.
My domain is hosted by godaddy, once I purchase a plan and build my website, will I be able to change the server settings on my godaddy account to point towards my wordpress website? Thank you.

Yes, you’ll be able to do that under a Business plan. You get a few more features under the eCommerce plan, and you can see a comparison at https://wordpress.com/pricing/
As for using a domain you already own with a site here, we have two options:
Mapping allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/

Thank you for your response. I have another question; As I’m looking to start and build an e-commerce website, I have been told that WordPress websites work better for a lower variety of products, I am looking at drop shipping and I may have hundreds and hundreds of different products I need to list on my website. I have also been told that Shopify would be a better option for my website, because they can accommodate many more products than a word press website. Can you please advise. Thanks.
