New to WordPress

    I am trying to start a website for a music management company. First of all, any ideas and pointers would surely be appreciated, but my main concern is hosting and domain. My partners and I want to invest in the ‘business’ version of WordPress but does this $300 cost include hosting and domain? Do I need to purchase my domain first and hosting through a separate site? I have very little knowledge on web building so any help would be appreciated.

    Hey! Lots of great questions!

    I’m fairly new to WordPress myself, but hopefully I can help get you started in the right direction!

    First and foremost, yes. Both hosting and domain are included with the business plan. If you haven’t checked it out already, you can find a quick overview of what’s included in each plan here. In fact, even the free wordpress.com sites include hosting, and can have a custom domain added on for $18/year – but the Business plans are still definitely worth looking at for all the other perks like the unlimited file space and Google Analytics.

    When it comes to more general ideas and pointers for running a business site on WordPress, I can’t offer as much personal advice since mine’s just a smaller blog, but I dug up a few articles for you here and here that seem to have a lot of what you’re looking for. Check them out, and let us know about any other questions that come to mind! I’m sure if I don’t know the answer, we can find someone else on the forums who does.

    Yes, the business version does cover a year of your domain subscriptions. Hosting is free with WordPress.com, even if you decide with our free version.
    So, you could just purchase the domain related subscriptions for $26 and get free hosting from us. However, here is all the wonderful additions to your blog if you decide to purchase the business upgrade:

    Of course, as you said, you can register the domain with us and then decide to purchase hosting somewhere else depending on your needs.
