  Hi

  New to wordpress. Looking to use wordpress symposium plugin to create social media site, but it says I can’t use this plug in on wordpress.com. Is this the reason to download wordpress to my pc??? thx 4 help a n00b l0lz

  Yes, you’re right, you can’t use plugins on WordPress.COM. They’re already built in. Here’s the article on Plugins:

  Therefore, to use something like Symposium, you’d have to set up your own site (self-host) on WordPress.ORG. In other words, it won’t be free. But, in setting up that site and running it yourself, you’d no longer be a n00b. Would that make you eleet? I don’t speak internet.

  Another approach you may want to think about is using the WordPress.COM site mainly as a static home page to link to a Slack community. Anyone can set up a Slack Community, which allows for multiple chatroom-style channels. I’m in two Slack communities and really enjoy the experience.
