New to wordpress
-
Hi, I’m trying to get a website started on WordPress and just need a holding page initially with contact details on. I’ve chosen the basic ‘free’ create a website option, and as I already have a domain name, it’s telling me I can either transfer my exiting domain name to WordPress, or buy domain mapping. It seems whichever option I pick it then takes me to a plan option, and the free site option is ruled out which seems a bit of a swiz. Is this right or have I misunderstood something? Sorry I’m sure this is basic stuff but I’m new to wordpress, any help would be much appreciated! :)

Hi –
No worries. I’m happy to help you get started. Yes, you can set up a basic landing page on a free site with WordPress.com. Those sites are the one that end with .wordpress.com.
If you want to connect a custom domain to the free site then you would need a plan upgrade. Any plan will do the job. Those are at wordpress.com/pricing/ All of those include the option to bring that custom domain over, either through transfer or mapping, and it’s at no extra fee. The plan covers that domain.
