New to wordpress and cannot move domain until site is complete

    Hi there,

    I have a domain name but my site is currently been hosted by another provider. I am very unhappy with the site and would like to build a new site using WordPress but I cannot move my domain name to WordPress until I have the site created and ready to be viewed by the public. How do I build a site without transferring the domain until the site is complete?

    Hi there,

    We have a lot of site owners that do this already. As a first step you will want to set up a new site here: https://wordpress.com/start/

    When you follow the steps on your screen, you can enter your domain name but we will NOT switch your site to that address automatically. Instead you can get set up in private on the “WordPress.com” address we assign your site.

    Once you are all set up on this end and ready to “launch” you can connect your domain at that time, wen you are ready. This will replace the current site with your new site at WordPress.com, which will use the custom address at that point.
