New to wordpress – HELP w/Domain Forwarding

Hello folks – I’m new to wordpress … and I need step by step instructions on how to forward a subdomain … I joined another blog on the internet – it has taken them a full week to understand my question, so I felt like I didn’t need my blog there and found wordpress … lol

I have a website currently: http://www.mldavisphotography.com — I want to add a blog to my site … my domain is with godaddy.com but my site is hosted somewhere else …

Can I set up a subdomain with godaddy and use forwarding to show my blog here? Or do I have to set up some sort of cname mapping where my website is hosted? This is where I get confused …?

It just seems simple enough to have it forward here … but I couldn’t get that to work with the other site I signed up for and they said I was doing it wrong? Any help would definitely be appreciated … :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you read the sticky post at the head of this forum? This forum is only for those who have blogs being free hosted by wordpress.COM and wordpress.COM blog cannot be embedded into websites. Only wordpress.ORG installs can be embedded into websites.

All those who have blogs being web hosted by any web host other than wordpress.COM must post to the correct forum for their software. > http://wordpress.ORG/support/

The domain forwarding and all is above my pay-grade. However a cheap and straightforward solution is to just put a link on your home web site with a link to your WordPress.COM blog – maybe don’t call it a “blog” – Current Projects, Latest Projects, Tips or whatever.

Your visitors would then see a site with “photos.wordpress.com” – the link is straightforward but as TT notes above not embedded.

Timethief – I read — but everything is still very confusing.

Auxclass, I will just use a link if I use this site … thanks though.

You can do it the way you planned. I’m afraid you have to purchase the Domain Mapping upgrade from WP.com and then set it so that the domain you “map” to your WordPress blog is of the correct format. You can use, for instance, blog.whatever.com for the subdomain, but you can’t use whatever.com/blog. Make sure you’re using the correct subdomain, ie your domain purchase allows you to have subdomains in the first place.

I’m afraid I can’t offer more specific help, but presumably someone who’s done it can. Or as a last resort you can contact staff here directly at http://support.wordpress.com/contact
