New to WordPress. I accidentally cancelled my domain, I think…
-
I was trying to start my new website with WordPress but got very confused and overwhelmed. I admit I really don’t understand how to use it properly. So I panicked and cancelled my subscription. I figured I’d ask someone younger who understands these things to help me.
I think in my late night panic, I also cancelled my domain name: thewanderingsue.com. Is there any way to fix this or have I lost that opportunity? Thank you for your help! ~SueThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Sue,
I’m happy to let you know that I was able to restore your domain, thewanderingsue.com! You’re all set on that front.
Starting a new website can feel a bit overwhelming, but we are here to help you every step of the way. Could you tell me a bit more about the kind of site you’re looking to create? Knowing your goals will help me point you in the right direction and offer suggestions for themes or features that fit your needs.
In the meantime, here’s a quick guide to help you get started on WordPress.com:
1. Choose a Theme: You can browse and select from a variety of free and premium themes in your dashboard under Appearance > Themes. This is the design and layout of your site.
2. Add Content: You can start adding pages and posts to your site through the dashboard. If you’re unsure where to start, you might want to create an “About” page to introduce yourself.
3. Customize: Use the block editor to easily build and customize each page—adding images, text, and more.
4. Support: If you ever need help, you can always reach out to us directly, and we’ll guide you through anything you’re stuck on.
Let me know more about your website goals and feel free to ask for any specific help. You’ve got this, and I’m here if you need anything!

thank you, so much! I think I’m being overly ambitious so I got overwhelmed. I’m trying to create a website for my friends & family to keep track of my travels. My dream was to have a map and for that day’s entry to pop up from the map so they could see a note from me & some photos. Maybe the occasional video. I’m thinking that’s not as easy as in my head.
Thanks again for your help. Maybe I’ll watch some tutorials before I try again. -
Hi there,
You’re very welcome! It sounds like a wonderful idea to share your travels with friends and family—don’t worry, it’s definitely possible to create a site like that on WordPress.com, and I can help you get started.
To achieve your vision of having a map with entries linked to specific locations, here’s a suggestion:
1. Use a Map Block or Plugin:
WordPress.com offers a Map block that you can add to your posts or pages. If you’re on the Business plan, you can also explore plugins like Interactive Geo Maps to create maps with clickable points linked to your entries.

You can create a new post for each day of your travels, adding notes, photos, and even videos. With the map block or plugin, you can link each post to a specific location on your map, so visitors can click a point and see your updates from that day.

WordPress makes it easy to embed photos and videos into your posts. You can drag and drop images or use the Video block to upload short clips from your travels.
