New to WordPress – in struggletown! Please help?

    Hi,

    I’m very new to WordPress and am confused as all hell.

    Somehow I’ve bought a domain name with Bluehost. How can I transfer this to WordPress.com without paying? I’ve already paid for the domain with Bluehost so don’t want to pay it again.

    When I try and map a domain, it says I have to pay WordPress money? I thought WordPress was free?!

    ALSO, I’ve bought a theme from Themeforrest which I’ve downloaded onto my computer. I can’t add this theme to my site. There is just no ‘add new’ button as it appears when I google the issue. Whhhhhhy is this so complicated?!

    Any help would be great. There are obviously some basic things I’m missing!

    WordPress.com do offer free sites, such as https://thecandidacoach.wordpress.com/ but to use a custom domain address with that site requires a paid plan. As your domain is at BlueHost, and as you have purchased a theme (which won’t work here at WordPress.com unless you purchase a Business plan) perhaps you should investigate creating a site at BlueHost using the WordPress.org software.

    Hi, thanks for replying.

    Okay this now makes sense. I did have a Bluehost account (including domain and hosting) but cancelled it as I thought I could continue to edit in WordPress.com – which I obviously can’t to the way that I want to edit.

    It seems like it’s best for me to reactive my Bluehost account, import my theme and edit in WordPress.org through there. Does that summary sound right? :)
