new to WP but know CSS

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi all, I’ve just signed up to WP and want to edit the CSS of my blog and I’ve just got a couple of questions before I buy the CSS upgrade.
My main question is that if I use ‘The Journalist by Lucian Marin’ template with the intention of editing the CSS, do I get any access to the existing style sheet used? ie. names of #div tags, positioning etc?

If you can let me know that would be great.

And also, can the header and footer be easily edited or ideally removed?

I hope somebody can help me out here. I look forward to your responses.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Pete

Since you know CSS, you can go to Design > Edit CSS, have a look at the style sheet and see what you can edit, then add your own CSS modifications and preview the results to see if you can actually do what you want, before buying the CSS Upgrade.

  • You have access to the full stylesheet yes; you cannot remove page areas (these are included in the theme files, which you do not have access to), but you can certainly edit them.

Thanks bubel, as long as I have access to the full existing stylesheet that’ll be perfect. I can then edit it based on the existing div tags etc.

With regards to removing header and footer as it has the bloke who designed the template’s name visible, I’m assuming I can just make it all white to blend in with background, or can it be removed completely? Without seeing the stylesheet it makes it hard to see what exactly can be edited.

The protocol is to leave a link as a courtesy, whether you put it in the blogroll or whatever. But you can test out the changes you want to make by using the free preview, so try that.

that’s fair enough, I’d be more than happy to credit the designer but it’s a bit big at present on the template i’ve chosen. I think putting it in the blog roll would suit me better. Thanks
