New to WP but not CSS and could use some help please
-
Hi All,
I very new to using Word Press but have been hand coding CSS for some time. I’m pretty sure my issues are how WP works – it’s themes, code etc.
The overall outcome is I want to create a WP blog page that looks as close as possible to this test page on a new site I am developing:-
http://www.traceysimmonds.com/about.asp
Looking at the various themes I believe I need to choose a the closest theme that matches my site and change the CSS code? I am confused on the ‘navigation menu’ I am trying to replicate (About, Video etc) and whether this should be a Page or Link in WP?
If anyone has the time to point me in the right direction then I’m sure I’ll pick it up fairly quickly.
Many thanks,
Nathaniel

I’d suggest you to use Sandbox-10, instead. Also, I think Sandbox is the right theme to use in this case, so besides my previous suggestion, I think you’re all set.
Ah, regarding the navigation menu, I’m pretty sure you’d want those to be pages, so just make a page for each of them, then go to Appearance -> Widgets, drag the Pages widget to your sidebar and that should do it.

Thanks for your reply.
You know I actually READ the second post on the sticky thread Getting Started… and just found the downloadable installation of WP which is what I was originally looking for in the first place!
I assume, if anyone here knows the answer, that I can fully customise this so I can control the layout, links, everything I want? Right? :-)
Many thanks,
Nathaniel

You can control the layout, etc. using CSS, yes. However, you don’t have access to the .php files. If you want to be able to change the source code to your needs, then you’re better off downloading the software from http://wordpress.org.

@devblog theirs another CSS thread that was posted recently.
If you have the time could you please take a look at the thread.

@devblog – Thanks that is what I’ve already started doing soon as I realised I was using the wrong site! Just uploading now so will give it all a go.
@teck07 – Thanks for that link, just testing the ‘Page’ links and that works fine.
Guess I just wasted 25 credits on Upgrades for domain mapping and CSS!
Cheers,
Nathaniel
