new to wp, can i make a website using wp.com or just blog

hi all
wp is great. i made a blog for myself. i can add many pages (as a menu) but i can not delete a page called “blog”. i do not want it in my site because it will look as a blog which i do not want to create. i want to create a website using wp.com.by the way, what do you call a website that you can create using wp? can i called website-look-like blog? or i can create real website using wp.com?

I could not resist responding to this. There’s a strange notion out there that websites and blogs are not both websites. Most “websites” are one way noticeboards that are infrequently updated, do not allow commenting and compel visitors to click through the same static front page blah, blah, blah every time they visit. Most blogs are lively and most “websites” are moribund. -

Yes, you are right. Nevertheless there are some free theme on wordpress.com that displays static pages but not completely static (magazine themes) which is a “combination” of static pages and blogs as you mean. -
I think you can get rid of the “Blog” title with a custom menu – when I am talking to people I just tell them “this is my web site” I skip the part about using “blog” software – nobody really much cares and in my case people visit looking for the content
Yes some people look down at a “blog” for various reasons – so just don’t refer to your site as a blog

Thanks all for your reply, but i can not get rid of “blog” page? i do not think there is a way to do that! maybe i am doing something wrong

Pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ are static and are for content that rarely changes. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog.
There is only one main page for posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/ in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page. The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.
If you choose a static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”. -

was so helpful, i did not know that k2-lite “blog” page can not be removed and switching to another theme can fix the issue. thanks a lot. -
