New URL and Plan

  I currently have a free WordPress theme and plan. I want to change my domain name and also purchase the premium plan. How do I do this? When I tried it seemed as if the billing was for my now URL, while at the same time showing the new domain name. Just wondering if I was in the wrong place, or if I needed to upgrade first.

  When you upgrade to a paid plan you receive a free custom domain name. Your original WordPress.com address still exists but everything is seamlessly routed to your new domain. If at some point in the future you didn’t wish to continue with your custom domain you could revert back to a free site as the original address with the WordPress.com suffix would still be available for you.

  Like @themagicrobot said, all WordPress.com plans include a free domain credit with optional privacy protection. Please do note that privacy is a paid service.

  You can refer these blog links to know more about plan features and domains

  Once you purchase the domain, you can set the new domain as your primary domain.
