I have purchased a domain through Bluehost and want to have a very simple website as a professional splash/landing page as a writer. How do I start? I feel like most videos are getting too in depth and it’s frustrating. All help much appreciated!

It looks like you have not only purchased a domain but also hosting from Bluehost.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.
