New user: Formatting Issues

I put in the first entry of my blog today and have had a lot of problem getting it to appear as it was written. I have gone in several times to edit and add paragraphs, spaces, etc where apropriate and it saves some of them and not others. Is this a common problem or is there a problem with the server today? Let me know what you think and also if I need to be more specific.

    Thanks!

a link to the post in question and an explaination of the procedure that you followed would help. :)

Else all we can do is make guesses and, trust me, you don’t want that today from this bunch.

Sure thing. Here is a link: http://iamnotmymother.wordpress.com/

In terms of the procedure I used, I wrote the post, then published. I checked the site, saw that it was wrong, so went back to the Dashboard and hit edit next to the post. I fixed the formatting, checked the site again and saw that it was still wrong. I repeated this a few times. I tried going in through the ‘Manage’ tab and pressing edit that way, but the same thing happened. Maybe one or two of the changes took, but I was trying to put in about 5 or 6 paragraph breaks that wouldn’t take. Does that make sense?

Ok, what did you write your post in? Word?

Which editor are you using here at wp.com? (Do you see icons or the actual html tags along the top)

    Browser you;’re using please?

What format are you fixing? Which html tags?

I wrote my post in word, then copied it into the wordpress post section.

I see icons at the top…

Mostly Internet Explorer off a PC…occasionally Firefox on a mac. Today I was using IE on a PC.

I was just fixing spaces…I’m not sure what html tags those would be, if any (I am sooo not html savvy, if you couldn’t guess). For example, in the fifth paragraph it says “But then again…” This was meant to be on its own line, and “sometimes all I want…” was supposed to be a new paragraph. But it keeps lumping them together.

Let me know if you have any other questions…and thanks so much for your help!!

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I retyped my post directly to the wordpress editor and all was well. Now I know…thanks again!!

If you want to use Word, copy and past the post into Notepad, then copy and past into your post. The only advantage I’ve found for doing so is that that Word has a spell checker while Notepad does not and I can’t accidentally eliminate my post as I occasionally do using the WordPress editor.

If you want to use word, then your better off using one of the external aps for writing your posts. Best one ive used so far is Windows Live Writer, sure its still in beta but it works near perfectly. After that is BlogDesk and w.blogger. BlogJet is anopther good one, but you have to buy it after the 30 day trial period.

Using the apps above gives you the advantages of word,, formating, spell checker etc. However you also get the option to preview your post, to see how it’ll look after you post it; and they’ll even publish the post to your blog for you.
