New user needs help with pingbacks and trackbacks

    Using links for the first time, have read wordpress guide but would still be grateful for some basic help with pingbacks and trackbacks.
    First, problem with a friend’s wordpress blog linking to mine – the link works fine on his blog but nothing appears on my blog dashboard. Shouldn’t a pingback show up under the comments section of my dashboard? Second, I want to link to a non-wordpress site and I understand from the guide that this is done by a trackback. However I can’t find words ‘URI trackback’ on the other non wordpress blog to paste an address. Also how does address once pasted work on my post -it it like a link for reader to click on?
    More generally if I link to another site how does the pingback or trackback appear on that other site -is it as a link back to mine? And finally can I moderate all comments/pingbacks/trackbacks received by my site before being published?
    Sorry about the basic nature of enquiry. Any help appreciated.

    All WordPress.com blogs by default have comments open and pingbacks enabled on all posts and pages. Please check your settings on your posts as it sounds like you may have disabled them.

    Thanks. Still not resolved unfortunately. I did make sure comments and pingbacks are enabled on all posts/pages but still didn’t receive pingback when a friends blog linked to a post on mine.
    Even if this can’t be sorted ,still appreciate any help on the other queries
    -How to locate the wording ‘URI trackback’ on non wordpress blog to paste an address to link to my blog?
    -And generally when I link to another blog ( which I haven’t yet tried) how does the pingback/trackback appear on the other blog?
    -Finally if another blog links to mine can I approve/unapprove incoming pingbacks/trackbacks as I can with comments?
