New user to wordpress

  Hi I want to use wordpress hosted on hostgater to publish my website. I own my domain and currently use wix as my site builder. as you know, wix’s loading speed is terrible! i want to build my site on wordpress, and then link it to my domain on hostgator, is this possible? If so, how do i do it? many thanks.

  I should point out i want to create the entire website on wordpress before i link my domain, so that my current site can remain active until the switch

  Yes, it is possible! You can use domain mapping, for which you would have to upgrade to a paid plan on WordPress.com. Here is a Support’s page documentation on domain mapping and the overview of different plans:

  Thanks does it matter which paid sub? do i even need to pay a sub as my domain is not with wix, so i am free to unlink it from wix and re link it anywhere else. so, how can i build my site on wordpress completely, then after ive made it, link my own domain?

  It all depends on how advanced your site is going to be. Meaning what features you need? You can easily build your site on a Free plan and when you are ready you can upgrade to the lowest plan, Personal or higher, in order to use the domain mapping.
