New user trying to create an email list

  Hi!

  I am a new user to wordpress.com and am trying to add a box that allows people to sign up to be on my email list. Can anyone help? I tried inserting [contact-form] into a post, as I saw mentioned, but that did not work…

  Nothing showed up– it just appeared exactly as I wrote it.

  But I would like it to create a box that people can type their email address into, and I receive a list of these addresses so that I can send out email updates about music shows.

  I wrote the code directly into my post– I use wordpress.com. Was that correct, or was there some other place that the code needs to be written?

  Did you add it to the Visual editor or the HTML editor? Whichever you used, try clicking the tab for the other and using that.

  Oh, I didn’t know there were two kinds of editors! Yes, it created the box when I changed to html editor, thanks!

  How do I view the email addresses/info that is submitted?

  Also, is there anyway to create a small box that is just for email addresses in wordpress.com (instead of the giant comment box)?

  The messages left in the contact box will be emailed to you. There is no way to create a smaller box.

  I see that the email addresses and comments get emailed to my address- so that is all figured out!

  But I am still wondering if there is a way to just have a small box for email addresses rather than the giant comment box.

  As you are a new user and your blog is set to “private” I want to be sure that you understand that wordpress.com blogs are non-commercial blogs. No advertising can be posted on them and the TOS also states they cannot be used to drive traffic to third party sites.
