New username problem?

  Am trying to set up just a username, not a blog, for a co-editor of a blog. Have gone here: http://wordpress.com/signup/
  as advised by the FAQ. It points out if I am suggesting a username or email that has already been taken, but after that’s sorted out, I click Continue and nothing happens. Is this temporary?
