New users invited to join a private blog but names not appearing under Users.

I do not have e-mail addresses for all students enrolled in my class and want them to join our class blog. Here is what I sent out. One student told me “she’s in” but I do not see her listed as a user.
Here are detailed, step by step instructions to follow:
1. Click the link https://en.wordpress.com/signup/
2. Select “Sign up for just a username” on the WordPress page. Skip over the first option of creating your own blog.
3. Complete the form including creating a username and password. Enter your e-mail address and click “Sign up.”
4. Activate your account by responding to the automatic e-mail you will receive.
5. Log in to your account using the username and password you just created.
6. Update your public profile. Fill in the line for first name, last name, and “display name publicly as” capitalizing the first letter in each as usual. Students: Make sure your “Display Name Publicly as” is simply your first and last name with a space between your first and last name. Parents: Please list your name as Mr. or Mrs. followed by your last name.
7. Click “Update Profile.”
8. Last step: click this link and request membership to our class website: http://pec2012.wordpress.com/ You will receive an e-mail invitation to join the class blog. Follow the link! You will want to bookmark our class site for reference.

It’s possible that there could have been a glitch in the process. If they do have a WordPress.com account, you can add them manually from the Users section of your blog’s Dashboard.

None have WordPress accounts and I don’t have their e-mail addresses. That is where I am stumped.

Well, in that case they’ll need to create WordPress.com accounts.
